A moderate concentration of Saharan dust is expected to drift over the Cayman area from Friday afternoon.

WHEN:
Friday afternoon through late night Saturday.

IMPACTS:

  • Hazy conditions across all Islands.
  • Reduce visibility
  • Reduced air quality

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Take precautions to reduce the risk and impacts from dust
  • Stay indoors as much as possible
  • Wash hands regularly and avoid touching eyes
  • Close door and windows to keep dust out
  • Wear face masks, long sleeve clothing and protect eyes when outside

WHEN:
All day Saturday

WHERE:
Mainly over southeastern coasts and open seas.

IMPACTS:

  • Rough seas will make navigation difficult for small vessels.
  • Increased risk for small craft taking on water or losing control.
  • Strong wave action may impact reefs, channels and coastal areas.
  • Conditions may become unsafe in open and exposed areas.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Avoid going out to sea in small craft if possible.
  • Stay within sheltered waters where conditions are calmer.
  • Check vessels and safety equipment before any travel.
  • Monitor official channels for any updates.
